22 NYCRR §1200.18 Forming a Partnership with a Non-Lawyer DR 3-103

A. A lawyer shall not form a partnership with a non-lawyer if any of the activities of the partnership consist of the practice of law.

• You can form a partnership with lawyers not admitted in NY State. N.Y. State 70-144. You can even form a partnership with Swedish attorneys. NY State Bar Ass'n Ethics Opinion 94-658.
  
• Can't form law partnership with licensed patent agent. Nassau County 88-44 even though federal law
  
• Can't form partnership with real estate broker to obtain review of real estate taxes, even where attorney does not hold himself out as an attorney. NY State Bar Ass'n Ethics Opinion 94-662
  
• Can't form a "professional relationship" with an accountant to provide accounting and tax related services N.Y. State 84-557
  
• You can't associate to provide divorce mediation services Nassau County 89-34
  
• Profit sharing retirement plans can include non-lawyers
